HOW TO DRESS FOR DIFFERENT BODY TYPES

Hello Fashionistas!

Trust you've been staying trendy.

Today, we'll be looking at a much anticipated fashion topic. We are looking at how to dress appropriately for different body types. So, let's start at the beginning.

What are body types?

A body type or somatotype, is a generalized category of body composition based on the distribution of body mass and fat. It can be influenced by genetics, diet, lifestyle and fitness level. There are three main body types: Endomorphs, Ectomorphs and Mesomorphs.

1. Endomorphs

Endomorphs have stockier bone structures with larger midsection and hips with more fat distributed throughout the body. They typically gain fat fast and lose it slowly because they have naturally slow metabolism.

2. Ectomorphs

Ectomorphs have more narrow shoulders and hips with respect to height and relatively smaller muscles with respect to bone length. They also have naturally fast metabolism which makes it difficult to gain muscle mass.

3. Mesomorphs

Mesomorphs have medium bone structure with shoulders wider than hips and a developed athletic musculature. They have efficient metabolism, with mass gain and loss happening with relative ease.

What are body shapes?

A body shape however, is the general appearance of a person's figure, which is influenced by the distribution of fat and muscles, and the structure of their skeleton. It is also defined as the shape of the body from upper to lower alongside your waist. Body shapes are analyzed by calculating the average waist ratio to the average bust or chest ratio (WBR/WCR) and average waist to the average hip ratio (WHR).

Female body shape is commonly classified as apple, inverted triangle, pear or triangle, banana or rectangle, and hourglass.

Male body shape can be categorized as triangle, oval, inverted triangle, rectangle, and trapezoid.

Understanding how to dress for your body type can make a huge difference in how you feel in your clothes. Instead of following trends that don't work for everyone, focusing on pieces that flatter your specific shape will boost your confidence and help you create a timeless, personalized style.

Next week, we'll be looking at how to dress the apple body shape.

Till I come your way next time, keep staying trendy.
